2020.09.21 08:27 Jblitzkrieg3 My story of dealing with Paranoid Schizophrenia. (True Story).

Sup guys my name Jonathan and Im going to tell all you what its like living with paranoid schizophrenia. (Before I say anything, please refrain from commenting disrespectful things towards me and anyone involved, I just want to tell my story, not start any beef with anyone, but I don't mind legitimate questions, thank you for understanding). Now context for the story, I am a strange case with schizophrenia, you see people usually develop it when they are older, but i actually had all the symptoms for it growing up, its still possible for children to get it, but its rare. For me I did hear voices and see things, but it truly got worse when I was 16, and before I fully start, there isn't really a distinct time-line, I'm just telling you all events that have happened. Now the story, It was a build up to this day, for years then I kept hearing voices and seeing the same people over and over, and one day I was at school in Spanish class and it happened. My first episode, everything went black and I was alone in a room, and there was a light over me. Then a black figure walked up to me, slowly, it didn't make any noise, and next thing I knew my friend sitting next to me tapped me on the shoulder and asked if i was ok. She saw i was sweating and looked horrified, i looked at her and grabbed my backpack and walked out of class. My teacher asked me where I was going and I ignored him, I went to a bathroom and these voices that really didn't sound like anything before started saying to "kill myself," "kill someone" and worse of all "you're worthless". After that, I went straight to the counselors office to talk. I walked in and he looked at me and asked what happened. I broke and said everything. He looked horrified, but I refrained enough to not tell them what they were saying, but instead I was just hearing them. My mom came and picked me up, and she is a mental health nurse and I told her everything. She wasn't really surprised to hear and told me she suspected as much, and took me to a psychiatrist. After hearing my symptoms he diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. And he helped get a therapist and start taking meds. This was the beginning of an eventually down fall for my sports. Before all this I was an elite athlete in both football and lacrosse. I was a four year varsity goalie, and a three year varsity nose guard. At the time I 6'0 240 pounds of muscle and was running a 6:30 miles, benching 250, squatting 360, and deadlifting 320. The reason this is important is for happened next. The medication i was prescribed had a major side affect of weight gain, and within 30 days I went from 240 of muscle to 300 of fat, it was impossible to maintain anything, I was getting hungry all the time, and my diet to maintain my body blew me up and working out like crazy didnt help. I went from being a D1 5 star athlete to, not even going to college. I quit football senior year and finished lacrosse, because it was my favorite, but before my senior year lets go back to major events. Did you know one of the main symptoms of a schizophrenic is false memory? Well, i actually believed for a period of time that my mom was verbally abusing me, sadly this ruined my relationship with her for years, but it took me until 3 months ago to realize it was a fake memory. I'm happy to say I fixed my relationship and we are closer than ever. Other things I went through were "reality distortion", meaning I lost touch with my surroundings. You know in the movies were mental people are saying the government is making them do this? Well thats real, but mine were different. I believed a random person was trying to murder me, and really hurt me. My paranoia was bad. I couldn't be home alone without having an anxiety attack, I was afraid of living my house, I was afraid of being in a car, and i was afraid to sleep as it all made me full vulnerable to be killed. I didn't leave my room for a month at one point and yes I missed a month of school. Lucky for me i was originally a top student, never was late, had a 4.0 and I was a top athlete. So the school was worried about me, and it was a lot to explain. I went back to school and finished my sophomore year, and junior year started and it was getting worse, I was losing hope for my life. I was paranoid that what I was living wasn't even real, and one day ill wake up in the hospital bounded. I thought my friends weren't even real. A breaking point was during English i lost touch with reality and saw the black figure grab my arm and was trying to break it, and I started screaming in agony, my homie Mac, saw it and pulled me back, everyone was staring. Mac, being a amazing guy grabbed my backpack and walked me out, called my dad and i left school. Thats a thing I was blessed with, my friends, all of them never left me, instead they supported me and always reached out. I still thank them til this day. Though I still was struggling, a lot. As time went on new voices would form, at first it was three voices and a shadow man. One voice was aggressive with telling me to kill, another to kill myself, and another told me I was "worthless". The reason that hurt was the false memories of the verbal abuse, my mom told me that, and it still hurts hearing that word. I eventually formed two new voices. One was a women, constantly screaming, and telling me everything is ok, and to trust her, (screw that) the last one became the "alpha" voice. I actually named him Trey, no reason just felt right, but he was an actual manifestation of a man, a man that has many qualities of people i know, and he actually is always around, he says whatever he wants, but its always a back and forth of destruction and life. He would say stuff like "your family hates you, you lie, you're an embarrassment to them, your friends are just using you as a sob story", but then say things like "its all ok, youre stronger than this, youre loved" he, he does scare me the most, but since he appeared a lot of the others took a back seat, and haven't been too active. Now the 2nd semester of my junior year, I got home schooled, but I dual enrolled into that and my high school, so I could continue sports. However, I had a rough junior year, but for lacrosse I actually still finished 10th in the state of California. I regressed, but it was still good enough. My GPA took a huge hot and i became a 3.2 students, my lowest I hit was a 2.8gpa. I was still getting offers, but a lot of the top tier ones were pulling out seeing me drop so dramatically. A thing though I didn't want to change was throughout all of this my lacrosse and football team didn't know i had schizophrenia, only my friends who played the sport with me,, and i was actually helping my teammates out with their issues, and some where bad too. I was happy that i could use my issues to help and understand others, and it was homeschooling that was helping dramatically, I was in a good space for a bit, but still having a hard time, and my senior year came and I quit football as the season before I tore the ligament and tendon in my right thumb, and its still damaged to this day. I was out for 8 months, and I healed luckily before lacrosse season, but I was done with football. Another main reason for quitting was to pursue art, specifically comics. During all this I was trying to make a comic book, but I took a pause on it, but my experiences now are being used to fuel my comic, and drawing throughout all of this was keeping me together. Sorry, for the run off, I wanted to say that bit. To continue my senior year started and my homeschooling was doing good, and so was my health a bit. But I came to bit me in the ass, I started to lose touch with reality a lot more, and I almost hurt someone in my life, who is precious to me, I saw them a murderer trying to kill me and I was about to attack, but I pulled myself out of it before anything. They hugged me and told me it was fine, they understood, and I cried really hard, I couldn't believe I almost hurt my sister. Though, after that day it got better, and I managed to squeeze through my senior year without a freak out. I thanked my coach beyond anything, as he was like my second dad, and helped me out as much as he could. I finished my lacrosse career 7th in state and 20th in the nation. I was awarded an award above MVP, I was known as the true heart and soul of the team, someone who helped everyone and always was there for my teammates. I gave a speech at the banquet about my story, and I got a standing ovation, I was highly respected and my story spread in the lacrosse community as I was already respected, and now people saw me as a true inspiration. The story doesn't end there however. After my senior year I got accepted to the Los Angeles Film School, and studied animation, but my illness had one last thing to do, I almost killed myself in my sleep, I thought I was dreaming, but instead I lost touch with reality. I had that attack and I was the last i had until now. After that I dropped out of school and took time to fix myself, I started to coach goalies in my town, and have been very successful in it. I am only 19 and already got a goalie committed to a college. My mental health took a lot of time to fix, and a lot of power to control it. Yes I still have bad days, but I know im strong, I know i can get through it, I tell myself everyday I am where I am cause I'm strong. No one can bring me down now, I just recently got my comic book published, and am the towns very own goalie coach. I work a lot and think a lot to help keep focus on other things, i still have along way to go before i feel comfortable doing a strange act called "dating" as I want to be the best man to a girl as I can be. I have to thank my friends, family, doctors, and even my home school teacher (love you Mr. Davidson) for helping me get to where I am. Yes I'm a college drop out, but hey I'm happy as I could be now, and nothing is stopping this momentum. One last piece of advice, I made a quote during the dark times that really helped me and hopefully it can help someone too, it "worthless people can make great things, because they are trying to prove to the world that they are not worthless". Sorry for making this story feel so disjointed, but I was in tears typing this, because I am so happy to tell it. I hope some of you could see what life is somewhat like for schizophrenics, there was a bit i left out because I felt it was too dark for this. Overall thank you for reading and I hope I got the message across at least one person.

2020.09.21 03:58 Artbabe33445 Looking for Fandom and Original Character Roleplays (M/M Only)

As the post title says I am looking for an RP partner. I am quite literate and have been working on Omegle and email for the last few years with a couple of friends.
I like to RP mainly within a fandom doing an m/m pair. I have one or two original characters that I would like to use. I do prefer to play in scifi/fantasy realm, more than slice of life content. I'm hoping that I can find a partner that is willing to write more than a few sentences per post and either join me on discord or over email.
Fandoms (I'm listing some of my favorites, but I am open to so many more)
The Witcher: Jaskier x Geralt, Geralt x Eskel, Geralt x Emiel
Dragon Age: Fenris x Male Hawke
Overwatch: Hanzo X McCree, Reaper x Soldier 76
Borderlands: Handsome Jack x Rhys
Teen Wolf: Stiles x Derek
Marvel: Tony X Stephen Strange, Steve x Bucky, Thor x Loki, Spiderman x Deadpool
DC: Superman x Batman, Batman x Joker (Also John Doe from the Telltale game), Tim X Kon, Dick x Jason Todd
Anita Blake Vampire Hunter : Jason x Jean-Claude(JC) JC X Nathaniel x Asher Asher x JC Jason x Richard Asher x Nathaniel
Angel/Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Angel x Spike
X-Men: Logan x Kurt Wagner, Logan x Remy
Original Pairings:
Omegaverse Vampire x Vampire Demon x Angel Demon x Demon Renaissance Painter x Model - Da-Vinci and Salai (look it up on google it is amazing!) 1950's Business men and so many more.......
I have one original characteidea that I'm going to post here.
Original character: Alexander Margil Species: Demon/Shifter Age:430….maybe older, he quit counting after his 3 century, Turned at around age 25 Sexual Preference: None Languages: English, Spanish, French, German….etc (he’s been around for a while) Birthplace: Madrid, Spain Appearance: 6’3”, Thin Muscular Build, Red Blond Hair, brown/tanned skin, Deep green Eyes. Personality/Background: He was born to Don and Doña Santos Margil. His family was very rich and Alexander wanted nothing. The boy squandered his wealth as he grew. During his teenage years Alexander had a series of torrid affairs. One such affair was with a young Duchess who was betrothed to another man. In order to save herself from ridicule and shame she claimed that Alexander raped her.
To prevent the execution of his son his father exiled him to his country estate in the free world. Unknown to his family the Americas held much more danger for the boy than if he had stayed in Madrid. The native population had overrun his families complex and were using it to lead a rebellion. Alexander was captured the moment he entered the estate.
Alexander was then taken as a sacrifice to their dark god. Instead of killing the man though the process changed him into a Monster. He became a brainless beast that the natives used to hunt down and kill the Europeans invading their land.
He had no memory of his past only the taste of the sweet blood and the echoes of their screams. None of the natives showed the beast any kindness, accept one. The young native man, Rapu.. During his days as the beast, he would revert back to his human form. Rapu would feed and wash the beast. Those were the only moments of piece Alexander knew, and even with his mind twisted and torn he fell in love with the young Rapu. Their love was due to fail though, as Rapu was destined to be sacrificed to their Gods. The chief of the tribe knew of the love between the young male and the beast and ordered Rapu’s sacrifice during the Summer Solstice.
They made Alexander watch as they slit his throat and tore out his heart. The howls that echoed through the forest that nice still haunt the people of the amazon. Alexander slaughtered the whole tribe and it is said that his howls can be heard every solstice.
Story Ideas: Modern Day → Alexander is now working as a Guide in the deep Amazon. I hope to have him meet another man that he becomes infatuated with and saves from dying in the jungle or another supernatural entity
If you find something you would like to do with me. Please hit me up in a PM. :)

2020.09.21 01:11 Cydonian___FT14X So I was watching Sense and Insensitivity

Where before have is seen a main character of somewhat Spanish descent being trapped inside of a slowly shrinking transparent box that is being controlled by a snappily dressed lizard man while the other protagonist, who has horns on their head, tries to free them?
Hm?

2020.09.21 00:50 MadLib1998 I recently came to the realization that I’m a lesbian!!! Yay for me!!

So sorry in advance for the long post.
Before COVID I (22F) was in my last semester of college with a boyfriend of two years. He was so sweet and wonderful and loved me, and I had every reason to be happy. But I just wasn’t, it was like there was a hole in my heart that I couldn’t fill. I thought I was broken. COVID hit and we were all kicked off campus and had to go home. I fell into a major depressive episode. Then I decided to break up with said boyfriend, and leave the country entirely to live with my family in Mexico and learn Spanish.
Being with my family, being single and away from that situation gave me the space and solitude to really think about my life and think about what I want. I read The Masterdoc (whoever wrote that deserves a Nobel Peace Prize jfc), and I just asked myself: at the end of the day, who do I want to be with? Who do I want to raise children with? Who do I want to not only marry, but see every morning in bed next to me for the rest of my life? And the answer is that I can only see myself with a woman.
Everything I ever thought I felt about men was comp het. And this explains all the loose threads of my life in a way that identifying as bi for 4 years just couldn’t. It explains why I had such a difficult time fitting in with the other kids in my very white, very Christian, very conservative hometown. It explains why I couldn’t relate to other straight girls. It explains why I sometimes became obsessed with my female friends and got sooo insanely jealous and protective of them when they would talk to boys. Honestly it also explains a lot of my body image issues and my discomfort with my body.
When I was 16 I got into an abusive relationship with a boy who scared the hell out of me. It was also sexually abusive. It tore me apart for years after the fact. I now realize that I became so passive to the point that I literally would just wait around for the first guy who showed any kind of interest and just let him do whatever? Which obviously landed me in some terrible situations lol. But that passivity allowed me to relinquish control and responsibility of my sexuality and place it in someone else’s hands. Idk I wish I could go back in time and change things.
But I’m so happy to have come to this realization. Not to sound corny but it feels like I’ve come home. I feel physically lighter. Sometimes I get freaked out that I’m making a mistake and how do I REALLY know if I’m a lesbian if I haven’t met every man out there? But I know that’s just comp het making me doubt myself.
I guess now I’m just wondering, now what? Lmao what do I do with myself now? I can’t date because of the pandemic and living with my 76 year old grandmother. I feel a bit like I’ve been run over by a bus but in a good way? Do the comp het thoughts get better over time?
I guess the only thing to do now is rewatch The L Word.

2020.09.21 00:17 Flannel-on-Denim How a friendship ended because of railroading, horrible puns, and a literal fight with Garfield

Well, after a lot of deliberation on telling this story, I have finally decided to tell the story of how a friend nuked our friendship because of his tabletop manners and inability to recognize his faults, both in-game and out. The story I'm about to describe is only the start, as there are more stories to tell, and this game was when my other friends and I realized how toxic this friend was in his behaviors towards the group. The eventual end would come much later, but this was ultimately the beginning of the end.
First off, the people in this story:
Myself - Playing a teenage Chosen hero who is a champion under the goddess Persephone.
My boyfriend - Playing a Monstrous werewolf searching for the person who turned him and coming to terms with his sexuality and curse. (This is important to know later).
Three other players, each playing the Divine, the Searcher, and the Big Game Hunter
And finally, Ghostly, the GM of this game and friend who would become a significant pain to the group throughout a couple of months.
The story begins as we were creating these characters in the midst of trying to find games. Our group was a pretty consisted of friends that had known each other for a couple of months up to a year or so (Most were brought together for games that I had run in the past) and typically either myself and another friend named Duke would be Keepers or DM's. While discussing our character ideas and talking about finding a Keeper to run for us, Ghostly decided that he would run for us because he had "a great idea" for a game.
For background on Ghostly, he was one of the people that I had met while trying to find people to join a Monster of the Week (MoTW) game that I had been putting together about a year ago before burnout occurred. Until that point, the games we played were never super serious, and his characters reflected that. So when we told him that this would be a more serious game for the group, as our characters, while humorous or slightly nuanced, would have a more serious tone. He assured us that he would do his best and work with what we had provided and set to work getting the game ready.
When the game finally came around, we were excited to get the chance to play our characters. Ghostly then began to set the scene. My character was arriving at Hellwater, Texas, where he would be staying with his Aunt and her wife in their sideshow horror house attraction (He insisted that these characters be the NPC's for Chosen's family, I understood why later). At this horror house, the Divine and the Searcher also worked there. Elsewhere the Monstrous somehow got mixed up with the Big Game Hunter in his investigations of some murder that occurred out by the railroad tracks that lead into town. Early on, it became clear that Ghostly was struggling to figure out how to run the system. Rused our dialogue had trouble pacing the game, etc. But this was Ghostly's first time being a Keeper, and we did our best to help him out, reminding him what our characters were doing and trying our best to be patient, but soon, the railroading began.
I had described to Ghostly how I wanted to find my chosen weapon (the key feature of my playbook) over the progression of the game. I didn't want to start out being the badass hero since my character was a juvenile delinquent with no real sense of heroics. The first thing Ghostly did was make is that both my chosen weapon and the weapon of the Divine just magically was in an old trunk in the house, and we just happened to find it after the Aunt told us to look for it. Slightly frustrated, I didn't overthink it and hoped that this was just a fluke and that things would get better as he got more comfortable.
I was wrong
The next thing he does is have my character interact with his favorite NPC (I know this because it was a character he used once), the ghost of a Spanish conquistador. Though my character had direct Greek roots, this ghost somehow ended up being my chosen's guide or something. He tells the Chosen his destiny and how he has to save the town, and if he failed:
It was hell or Highwater
He made this whole world and campaign setting, and I was beginning to have my doubts about Ghostly's reassurance that this would be a serious game.
After the Big Game Hunter and the Monstrous fought with a siren head like monster and the discovery of the weapons, Ghostly removed all player freedom having our characters suddenly meet in one place. Only after the Chosen almost being hit by the Big Game Hunter's car, and us suddenly being whisked away to a railroad museum. No roleplay, no reason why we needed to go there; we were just there now. After interacting with more DMPC's, we suddenly found ourselves in a supernatural otherworld. And that his how quick it was too, one minute we're in the train museum and the next we're in a supernatural train station standing next to a spectral train. This was the moment I knew this wasn't going to be a fun mystery, as Ghostly railroaded us into a fight with a haunted train.
We ultimately defeated the ghost train (which I think was the ghost of some dude that died preventing a horrible railroad collision, but I can't be sure), which was the end of session one. When he asked for our Feedback, we made it clear that the big thing we didn't like was the railroading, and that we as the players wanted choice in our actions as the game was about the investigation and finding out what monster threat is occurring that week for our cast. He said he would work on that and that the next session would be better for us.
It wasn't
Session two comes along, and we're ready to start, and it was going okay at first; Ghostly does a cold open with a man being attacked and his daughter being kidnapped in their own home. Our characters learn that the father is in the hospital, and the group thinks this is the beginning of something good. That is until another DMPC comes in and tells us to follow them to the library. I try to say we should go to the hospital first, but I'm told that what's happening at the library is too urgent to wait, so we go. Once railroaded to the location, we learn that something strangely supernatural is going on in the library and that we need to stop it. This is when we reach the moment; the clear moment in which it became evident that this was just a game for Ghostly to parade around his DMPC's and make dumb goofs.
You see, beforehand, Ghostly had shown us stuff from the /imsorryjohn Reddit and hinted at some possibilities for the next mystery (Ghostly was a big fan of Garfield and made it very clear how much he loved the orange cat). We think, "oh cool, some eldritch horror or something like that, that will be cool to fight!" What occurred next was not cool at all. Our characters had to fight a monster version of Garfield that came alive from the comic book strip because of some weird magic.
We had to fight Garfield. There was not an eldritch beast or old horror for us to fight or learn about, just a fucked up version of Garfield the Orange cat that would make the "I hate Mondays" and "I love lasagna" comments.
After a bloody and messy fight, all of our characters are again whisked away into some strange paranormal setting, this time different folklore and storybook settings where we had to each battle our way out and remeet with the group to find and stop the evil that had taken over this library. Honestly, this wasn't bad itself; it was kind of cool, each character set in different story settings, my Chosen ending up in a piece of Greek mythology. But what wasn't cool was how he handled my boyfriend's character, who up until this point had not revealed the curse and wanted to wait for the right time to tell the group what was up. Ghostly completely ignored that and just exposed the Monstrous's curse and that he wasn't human. And this would only get worse at the end of this mystery.
After fighting our way out, we finally confronted the cause of all this supernatural nonsense, a Baba Yaga that had used her powers to influence the library and create the illusions and situations we had just encountered. But as we're getting ready to fight this monster and get this over with, we get the sudden plot twist. This was all some initiation for our characters to work for the Baba Yaga.
The missing girl? Part of the plan. The DMPC that lead us there? Part of the plan. Every important DMPC that we'd known was involved in this. It was all some crazy job employment that no one wanted or needed.
None of our characters had an interest in joining her, especially my boyfriend's character, who wanted nothing to do with the supernatural because of what it had done to him. He tells the witch that he isn't interested and is about to leave when Ghostly just name drops the individual that turned the Monstrous and tells him where he was, all to get him to join.
My boyfriend, for obvious reasons, begins to get mad and tell Ghostly off because of this. I mentioned before that Monstrous's whole backstory and goal as a character was to find the person that cursed him; well, Ghostly just ruined that for the sake of having all our character join his stupid little alliance, so he could have more DMPC interactions and influence over the group. After everyone joined in to tell Ghostly off how that was bad DMing and that he couldn't just do that, he retconned the interaction and instead had it that the Baba Yaga would help the Monstrous find the one who turned him. Our characters leave, more DMPC's are shown to know about my character's chosen destiny and my boyfriend's lycanthropy (despite us doing our best to keep it secret) and that ended the second mystery.
This was the last session; all the players were done with the railroading; my boyfriend felt hurt that Ghostly ruined his whole character story for the sake of his entire Baba Yaga thing; many of the players felt like they were sidelined because they were not fighters and Ghostly hadn't let any research or investigation take place for the mysteries. Overall, it wasn't fun for the players anymore, and this was only two mysteries in. We, as a group, informed Ghostly that we were done with the game and thought it best to end it there. To which he replied:
"Oh, thank god, I hate being a GM."
He told us from the very start that he wanted to GM and was excited to do so, but I guess it was a lie as he was grateful to be done because he never really wanted to GM in the first place.
This whole thing was just a mess, and I apologize in advance if this sounds confusing or messy when reading it, because that was basically what it was like playing it.
TL;DR - Friend says he wants to GM for us, Railroads us and sidelines our characters to show off his NPC's, and the game ends because players are fed up with his horrible puns and his inability to listen to the players. Oh, we also had to fight Garfield.

[RF] Budget Beef
I partied to much my freshman year in college and I wasn’t able to pull my GPA higher than 3.0. I graduated with a quality control degree and I wasn’t in high demand. When I went to my senior year job’s fair, just about every employer, I talked to laughed in my face, besides one employer.
The potential employer was “Budget Beef” and it was located in Matehuala, Mexico which is about 300 miles north of Mexico City
The HR representative said that the company owns four square miles of land, where they raise beef cows and sell it to emerging fast food franchises at cheap prices.
In addition to Beef cows, he told me, they get dairy cows as well, who no longer produce milk and mix it with the beef cow milk.
I really had no other choice and agreed to take the position. If I lasted a year they would reimburse me my travel expenses.
After graduation, I took a flight down to Mexico City and someone from the company drove me to Matehuala.
When I arrived at the farm / processing plant, I was amazed how big the compound was, there was thousands of cows and so much land that I wasn’t able to see it all and There were two very large processing plants.
I arrived on a Sunday and I was expected to start the next day.
Stan was my mentor and he showed me the processing plant, that I was going to be assigned.
I grew up in Denver, and had zero experience working with cows, which I fully disclosed when I interviewed for the position.
Stan told me the two plants process hundreds of cows a day. He told me the company wasn’t happy with it’s output and was looking to see if the factory, I was assigned could be more efficient.
I was assigned the beef cow plant and the other plant processed dairy cows which were brought over to my plant to be mixed with the younger more tender beef cows.
Stan and I drove in a golf cart and he showed me about two miles of land, where the beef cows graze. He pointed to the area where the dairy cows were, but we didn’t actually see them because it was to far and he didn’t think the golf cart had enough gas.
I worked six days a week. My apartment was owned by the company which was across the street from the processing plants.
I would see a continual amount of tractor trailer trucks transport the meat from the plant and then to Northern Mexico and the United States.
The compound was heavily guarded by ex military armed men, who patrolled the whole four miles of the compound.
I met the CEO of the company. He was a tough old schooled, southern millionaire from Texas. He didn’t care about anything else but numbers and how much chopped and hamburger patties, we were producing for fast food taco and hamburger joints.
I didn’t have a car and relied on the company to transport me to the local supermarket. I started putting on weight from watching too much television, so I decided to jog again.
I jogged around most of the perimeter of the compound besides some areas that were off limits.
I got used to the sun and the heat and eventually it didn’t bother me.
Everything was going good, until one night, I was woken up by a frantic Spanish speaking man who was completely naked. I had made the mistake of feeling secure and leaving my door unlocked, because of the large amount of security guards, that patrolled the compound.
I was dead asleep and all of sudden the man, who was profusely sweating came barging into my room. I was later told by Stan, that the compound was located on the migratory route for migrant workers from South America. The second he came barging into my room he kept saying “ayuadame”, which was one of the few words I understood to mean help me!
Fortunately, security knew the guy had come towards my apartment complex and their must of been 10 armed men who quickly subdued the man. The man didn’t leave without putting up a fight.
I really didn’t sleep much the remainder of the night. I didn’t know if that man was a local or one of the migrants, but seeing the absolute terror in his eyes was haunting.
As more time went on, I wanted to know everything about my company and the compound. I would watch some trucks pull up to the compound and unload cows and then other trucks would take the meat away. There was also about 100 local people who worked in various departments of the compound, who were trucked in each day by yellow buses.
On Christmas Day, the processing plant was operating at a minimal capacity and I noticed, while I was jogging that security was lax.
I decided to use this opportunity to sneak onto the more restricted part of the complex that was about three miles away.
I was stunned, when eventually I observed walls that surrounded about a half mile radius. I thought that’s what I had observed in the past but I was always too far away to be certain.
As I got closer to the wall a security car quickly approached me and asked me for security clearance. I apologized to the the man and he took me to the main headquarters, where I had never been and was where the CEO resided.
They actually put me in handcuffs and made me sit for two hours before the CEO came and met with me. He was real stern and told me “son, if you can’t follow the rules we have established here, then your going to be terminated.”
I thought to myself “What the hell is so important that it had to be done in secrecy.
The main thought I had was that the walled in area was either bring used for mining something or extracting oil from the ground.
The company was basically leasing the land with a 100 year agreement with the Mexican Government and they didn’t own the mineral rights, at least that’s what Stan eventually explained to me.
Then, I thought that perhaps the man who barged into my room was working in the mine, but I still couldn’t figure out why he was naked.
I learned that Stan had the security badges and clearances to go wherever he wanted. He was considered upper management and my boss as well.
One day, he came over to meet with me and at lunchtime he started to have a seizure that lasted about two minutes. He had told me he had epilepsy that was controlled by medication.
I remember from the first aide life guard lessons I took, was just to just keep the person safe. As, I was watching Stan finishing his seizure, I realized that he was wearing his security badges, which I removed and I put in my pocket. He was in a real stupor when he started to come out and I asked him for his security passwords and he mumbled “the cows don’t eat people” and then he fell unconscious.
Being in my early 20’s, I was starting to get bored of the job, so I really didn’t care if they fired me and I decided to use Stan’s security badges to see what was going on behind the walls.
So, while Stan was taken away to the hospital, I affixed his security badges to my shirt and then took the golf cart to the walled off area.
I approached the wall and security quickly came over to me. I showed him my clearances and they questioned me about the clearances and I told them I was promoted. Then Security asked me for the password and I said “the cows don’t eat people”. They were fumbling on their walkie talkies and they were trying to reach Stan. I don’t think they realized he went to the hospital and I basically told them in a stern tone that I didn't have time and "Stan told me that I needed to check on something behind the walls and if you don't let me in then your going to be in trouble."
Security reluctantly allowed me in and the second I got behind those walls I was completely stunned. From a distance, I saw hundreds of people walking around completely naked in a field.
They kind of were just standing, laying down, or were walking around aimlessly.
I watched them for about a half hour, then eventually a tractor came out pulling a cart, that had food and the naked people walked towards the food.
The armed guards watched over from towers. Also, I observed security woman watching radar for overhead planes and I could hear her communicating with a pilot, who worked for the company.
My mind was racing and I wasn't sure the purpose of the naked people. I thought were they prisoners? Were they being used for experiments? or was there something much worse going on?
Nobody talks, so its difficult to get answers. I decided to leave the walled off area and head back towards the processing plants.
With Stan's security clearances, I then went over to the dairy cow processing plant. The plant was equally as secured as the walled off area. The same process occurred, where I showed them my clearance with the same password and eventually they let me in.
I made my way to the upper viewing area. I really was in complete shock at what I observed.
A tractor trailer backed into the loading dock. Armed guards opened the back of the truck and naked person after naked person were instructed to walk through a walled in pathway that got narrower and narrower until only one person at a time could fit through, like a funnel. Anyone who didn’t walk or walked too slow got tased. As the people were funneled single filed into the plant, they eventually came to a doorway that was partitioned off by a non-see through plastic barrier.
As each person walked through plastic barrier, they were quickly shot in the head with something that looked like nail gun. Then, they fell onto a conveyor belt and were hoisted up by their two legs and then their meat was processed.
I was in shock in just how willingly and orderly all the naked people were hurled off the truck and went to be slaughtered. Most of the people who came off the truck were younger adults.
Then, the next truck backed in and the people on the truck were completely different. They too were all naked, but they were yelling and screaming and their ages varied. Security was beating them and the people were constantly being tased. All of them eventually, were put down and were slaughtered.
I’m not really sure how to describe what I felt watching everything unfold. I’m not sure of playing years of video games and watching horror movies just completely desensitized me. why didn't I run down and stop what was going on? The people on the last truck were yelling in terror.
I eventually left the plant and went back to my apartment. I just laid in my bed for hours and eventually I fell asleep.
I gradually woke up and had a feeling like I had taken a 100 Benadryls. When my eyes eventually focused, I realized that I was laying on my back outside and I was looking straight up into the sky. I then realized that I was completely naked. I then said "oh shit!" Because, I realized that I was within the walled off area, grazing in the field with the rest of the people, who were going to be slaughtered.
Panic started to kick in. I quickly regained consciousness. I kept circling in place trying to comprehend the gravity of the situation.
I tried walking towards the Security guards and each time I did they tased me with a prodding iron and I would fall to the floor.
I tried talking to the other people, but it was like they were never taught how to communicate with anyone. They kind of walked around aimlessly and would occasionally stop to drink water from one of the hoses or pick up scraps of food.
There must of have been thousands of naked people all spread out in a quarter mile area.
As I walked to the other end, I noticed that there was a large barbed wire fence separating two additional areas.
One area was for children and another area was for pregnant women.
I observed a tent with 100’s of cribs set up. Women would go around and bottle feed the babies. The women wouldn’t pick up the babies, they would just reach in with the bottles.
The toddlers and the older children would just sit or stand in their cribs.
The young babies would cry but no one would respond.
The pregnant women would just walk around aimlessly. I’m not sure if they even knew they were pregnant.
I couldn’t watch the children’s area it was too depressing.
As a whole, little physical activity was encouraged, with the intent to keep as much weight on the people as possible.
Everyone had a numbered GPS tag fastened around their necks.
The security guards would find a particular person, then someone would quickly evaluate the person’s weight and tone. If the evaluator thought the person was acceptable then that person would be brought to a tractor trailers. There was no arguing and no fussing the people just obeyed the guards.
The bathroom situation was revolting. There were rows of toilet spread out in different locations. The smell of shit and piss permeated the air. There were flys everywhere.
There were areas with mounds of hay, where people would sleep.
I was in the fields for days. It was absolutely the most horrifying experience, because I didn’t know when they were going to tell me to go on the truck.
Any type of physical contact was prohibited. A security guard would come around with tasers if that occurred.
About once every three days, the guards would come around with hoses and hose each person down.
The days were extremely hot and the nights were cold. The people knew to instinctively rub mud on themselves to protect their skin.
After two weeks, one of the security guards instructed me to follow him. I really had no idea what they were going to do to me. I was shaking in fright.
Eventually, I got to the wall and one of the guard’s threw a robe at me to put on.
I was then instructed to sit in a shed, which was not far from the wall.
The CEO came into the shed and I put my head down. He said to me “I know the last couple weeks have been hard on you. You have two choices. You can go back to the field or you could join the upper management of my team?”
I said instinctively “I’m in. I want to join.”
He said “Great! Are you going to run off the first opportunity you get?”
I replied “I have nowhere to run to. Nobody came looking for me in the last two weeks right?”
He nodded his head in agreement.
I then said “why do you do this?”
He replied “There are to many people in this world and not enough cows. People want their tacos and their burgers for one dollar and that’s what we provide.”
I then said “who are the people who don’t willingly go to get slaughtered?”
He responds “Those are migrant workers who were trying to escape from starvation. We pay $20 dollars per person. We have “hunters” who bring them to us. Those people would eventually die sooner than later. The rest of the meat is bread on our farm.”
Then, I was taken back to my apartment and things returned back to normal for me. Eventually, I would eat the “Budget Beef” hamburgers with of ketchup of course, because I realized that I already had been since I was a kid.

2020.09.20 22:30 Raspint CMV: Passing as white is the same thing as being white.

This is something I've heard a few times, sometimes form people I've followed for years whom it always seemed obvious that they were 'white.' Now I've never understood how whiteness is something you could 'pass' as. Here's my thinking and tell me why it's wrong.
  1. There is no scientific difference between 'races.' (Of humans obviously.)
  2. That means there is no biological difference between a black man or a white man. I mean of course they are different people, but there is nothing genetic which separates them into two different categories of humans.
  3. Therefore 'race' is really just perceptive. Black people are black and white people are white because people see them as white or black.
  4. That means a person's race is based in other people's perception of them.
  5. If a person 'passes as white' then that means that other people perceive them as white. But since your race is literally what people perceive you as, being perceived as white means that you are white.
  6. Therefore, passing as white is equivalent to being white.
Now I've asked, and some people have told me that it's a cultural difference, but I don't understand why that can be true. I'm a white Ukrainian - Canadian, but if I were to move to a predominantly black or Hispanic nation, and whole hardheartedly immersed myself in the language and the culture, I would still be a white guy who speaks Spanish (for example) and partakes of that nation's culture.
Heck even if I my white parents went and lived in the same country - Let's say it's Spain -, raised me there, and furthermore did not teach me Ukrainian or English but Spanish as my mother tongue, and I was raised practicing the same cultural events of other Spanish people, I would still be a white guy Spanish guy, not a Hispanic person, correct?
For the exact same reasons it can't be geographical. White person born in an African country is still just a white person born and raised in said country, and same with a black person born in a traditionally white country like any European country.
Also if anything other than how people perceive you determines whether or not you are white, then what is it that is distinct about whiteness besides the light skin tone? What makes white 'white' or black 'black?' What is different from me and someone who merely passes as white? Because language, geography, culture, and religion don't seem to cut it.
If you asked most people how they judge race the immediate answer would be 'the persons' skin color.' Now there a white people who are paler and darker then me. So if a person has skin which is light enough to be perceived as white, then it's just white. That's how color works. If someone told me 'This painting is yellow and red mixed together' they would be correct, but I would also be correct if I said 'That color is orange.'

The Spanish Privateer: A Pirate Otome Visual Novel [Kickstarter Launches Tuesday, 8AM EST] [Demo available]
The Spanish Privateer Trailer
About
The Spanish Privateer is a visual novel created during the 2018 Otome Game Jam. Rating #1 among the entries for story and writing, gameplay, and overall, The Spanish Privateer has progressed from a prologue to a 227K word game.
Link to Demo (itch.io)Link to Kickstarter (launches Tuesday, Sep 22, 8AM)
Story
Set in early 17th century, just before the Pirate Golden Age, The Spanish Privateer places you in the shoes of Isabel Carlota de Castilla (but you can just call her Carlota). Carlota is an 18-year-old runaway escaping a marriage forced upon her by her parents. Not able to afford passage on a ship, Carlota offers to work for her voyage aboard Captain Rico's ship, La Aguja. Captain Rico is a privateer, a pirate with a letter of marque allowing him to attack and capture the enemies of Spain. Carlota soon falls in love with the sea, and challenges herself to become a valuable member of the ship.
Amidst sword fights, balls, and drunken nights at the tavern, Carlota learns more about her fellow crew members and the world outside Spain. Visits to the archipelago of Azores, cities in the Caribbean and Veracruz, New Spain, teach Carlota about the effects of colonization and make her question her contribution and power aboard the Spanish ship.
No matter which route you travel down, Carlota must overcome her male crew member's prejudices, earning their respect with her hard work, determination, and intelligence.
Crew

Isabel Carlota de Castilla, The Protagonist
Raised in high-society, Carlota has a lot to learn about living with pirates. Determined and courageous, Carlota's personality grows throughout the story, gaining confidence and knowledge about the world around her. Her personality is influenced by the player as well. Choose to respond to conflict with serenity and eloquence; wit and humour; or boldness and an occasional punch to the face.

Lark, the Bard
Lark is friendly (maybe a bit too friendly), quick-witted, and the ship's entertainer. A multi-talented man who can sing, strum, and weave a well-crafted story, Lark's only flaw is that he cowers in the hold during battle. It's not in his contract, after all. How did a Scotsman wind up on a Spanish pirate ship, anyway?

Flint, the First Mate
Flint is the first crew member Carlota meets, and if it weren't for her determination, she would have never stepped aboard La Aguja. Like many sailors, he views women aboard as bad luck, but there must be more than superstition behind his dislike of women. Much like when the teacher is your parent, Flint tries so hard to treat Carlota like any other crew member that he overcompensates by making her life difficult.

Rico, the Captain
Gentlemanly, talented at rapier dueling, and undeniably good-looking, it's no wonder Rico's shore leaves are met with hoards of women. Rico has faced tough choices ever since he was a child, and some of them have left a bigger scar than others. La Aguja's crew is made up of criminals, the poor, and down-trodden, thanks to Rico's limitless ability to forgive and generosity. However, just because he's good at listening doesn't mean he finds it easy to open up about his own past...
Features
The current version of the game is an Alpha Demo! It covers the prologue (main route) and ends when the paths diverge. The sprites are complete, but certain assets (backgrounds, GUI) are missing. The music for the alpha was created by Alcaknight and Derek & Brandon Fiecher.
ALPHA INCLUDES
  • 27.8K Words ~2 hours
  • 40 unique menu choices (with three options each)
  • 2 unique scenes with each guy
  • 3 personality traits with corresponding dialogue options!
FULL GAME INCLUDES
  • Three Good Endings
  • Seven Bad Endings
  • Six "Alternate" Endings
  • 227K Words
  • Achievements
  • Love, Friendship, and Personality Meters
  • Plenty of Piratey Adventures and Monkey Island Jokes!
The Kickstarter launches Tuesday, 8AM EST and will have multiple tiers of early bird rewards! Click to follow the project to be notified upon launch so you don't miss out!

2020.09.20 19:54 OleoleCholoSimeone German Burgos funny story about how Luis Aragonés helped him get his coaching badges

From https://as.com/futbol/2020/09/19/primera/1600533467_845126.html
"They are private courses, reduced price, for people who have played in the national team or a certain amount of years at a high level. I handed in the papers and I was calm, with eight years in the national team, imagine. But I don't know what jumped out and they said they wouldn't let me participate in the course".
At that time, Luis Aragonés was the coach of the Spanish national team. So Luis made an appointment for me in a room here in Las Rozas. A secretary appears, and right away the guy already had a servile attitude towards Luis. He began to explain to him in a good way why I couldn't join the course.
And he cut him off by shouting: 'Who has the key?' he rumbled through the whole complex. The secretary began to stutter. Luis punched the table and kept shouting, 'How can this man not be a coach'! The secretary left, came back a minute later and told him: 'Burgos is already registered, don Luis'.

2020.09.20 18:15 Jetta2slow I heard people talking in the same room!

My wife and I got into a little argument one night. So I went to bed in my older(5 years old) sons room. Both my kids (5 and 2) went to sleep in our bed that night. I was mid sleep when I heard someone walk in the room. I figured it was my wife coming in. Crazy enough I got sleep paralysis for a few seconds trying to get up to see what she wanted. I get up from under the covers and no one is there. I checked our room to find my wife and kids fully asleep. It was about 2am. I went back to my son's room to go back to sleep. As I laid there looking at my phone I legitimately heard 2 people talking in the room with me! As if they were next to the bed loud and clear! It was a man and woman. They sounded young. Spanish from their accents. The guy whispered something to the woman and the woman said " yeah, I know". When that happened I looked out the window, searched the entire house and checked my outside camera. Nothing. One of the weirdest things to happen to me! A little bit ago, probably a month before this happened I was laying in bed with my kid so he can fall asleep. When we were there he sat up and said "who said that?" I didn't hear anything at the time so I said it was just the wind. I'm wondering if it was these two people who he heard that night.

I've started watching Downton Abbey and for some reason, it's getting me emotional every episode. It's happened since season 2 (understandably because of the war and Spanish Flu). Has anybody else had this happen? FYI, I'm a man 😂

2020.09.20 17:17 KazukiTheWanderer [EVENT] ¿Franco Falangista? ¿O Falange Francoista?

23 March, 1941
A man is formally inducted into the ranks of the Spanish Phalanx of the National Syndicalist Offensive’s Councils, which is a mouthful, so everyone just calls it the FE de las JONS, or just La Falange. He is given a black sweater and an armband, and asked to put it on.
“I don’t know, guys, I feel a little silly in this to be honest.”
“It’s not silly! It’s professional and intimidating!”
“A sharp military uniform is professional and intimidating, this is a black turtleneck with a black and red armband.”
He stands in front of a mirror while changing into his uniform for the meeting. The locker room is also painted dark red and black, making everything very hard to see. Franco wonders if they would make the lights red and black if they could.
“I think you guys are taking yourselves a bit too seriously. You know whose intimidating? The Assault Guard, and they don’t go around wearing turtlenecks.”
“So, what will you do, Francisco? Somehow just change the uniforms?”
He pauses.
“You know what, I think I can. Let me borrow a pen.”
28 March, 1941
In the newspapers of the National Syndicalists, a heretical article criticizing the outward aesthetic and presentation of the Falange is beginning to gain traction, written by some unknown upstart by the name of “Francisco Franco”. This criticism of the usual Black-Shirted European Totalist aesthetic is definitely a break from the usual Mosley and Mussolini, albeit only in appearance. A good number of the totalist movement are shamed by a sudden self awareness of how ridiculous they look In their current uniform. Several initiatives spring up to begin designing and introducing a new uniform.
Ramiro Ledesma Ramos reads the article in the paper as suggestions for a new uniform pile up on his desk. His sweater itches, and he begins to see the merit of maybe changing the uniform. He reads the author, and writes down that name as a potential rising star in the ranks of the Falange. He will keep an eye on this “Franco”.
