2019.10.17 07:15 kittehgoesmeow What A Day: Ukrainey Zany Mick Mulvaney by Sarah Lazarus & Crooked Media (10/16/19)

"Release your tax returns or shut up."—Joe "will turn this car around" Biden

Mick Clique

As the impeachment inquiry forces various former Trump officials to start selling each other out, we’re getting a clearer picture of how the Ukraine scheme went down. Here’s the latest:
Also, there’s a Rudy Giuliani angle to the story, which is good, because it means we get to mention Fraud Guarantee again:
The White House’s attempts to block witnesses and obstruct justices are failing in grand fashion, and support for impeachment has continued to climb. Mitch McConnell has again confirmed he will hold a Senate trial if (when) the House sends over articles, and every passing day makes a vote against removing Trump from office more impossible to defend.

Be Smarter

President Trump has been so messy today that we can barely remember it, but there was a debate last night! Here were some key moments:

Look No Further Than The Crooked Media

Missed last night's debate? Fell asleep partway through? Watched the whole thing but Tom Steyer's prolonged eye contact lulled you into a hallucinatory dream state? We got you.
Get the full rundown on today's Pod Save America

What Else

President Trump really sent this actual letter to Turkish President Recep Erdogan. It’s just...we just...look, you gotta read it.
Trump also parroted a wild Turkish talking point and repeatedly insulted U.S-allied Kurdish fighters. In a press conference alongside the Italian president, Trump remarked that the Turkish offensive “has nothing to do with us,” and that the Kurds “are no angels.” He also said that the Kurds “are a greater threat than ISIS,” which is a crazy thing to say unless you’re Erdogan and want to eliminate them. Meanwhile, the House overwhelmingly passed a bipartisan resolution condemning Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S.forces from northern Syria.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-NY) has signed a bill that will allow the state to pursue charges against people who have received presidential pardons, closing a “double jeopardy” loophole. It’s a direct message to Trump that he, his family, and his henchmen like Paul Manafort, Rudy Giuliani, and criminals yet to be revealed won’t be exempt from justice, even if they try to pardon their way out of trouble.
Trump ambushed the grieving parents of British teenager Harry Dunn by trying to host a surprise meeting between them and the woman who killed their son in a car accident. They accepted an invitation to the White House, during which Trump unexpectedly tried to introduce them to Anne Sacoolas, the wife of an American diplomat who killed their son in a car accident. Lest you forget that we elected a reality TV star with no human compassion to the highest office in the land, he also had cameras on hand to capture the magic.
Kim Jong-Un had a photoshoot riding a white horse up a sacred active volcano, which may be a prelude to a big announcement, or could just be weird Vladimir Putin cosplay.
NASA paid SpaceX $5 million for a safety review because Elon Musk smoked pot that one time. If NASA didn’t want people to get high, they shouldn’t have put out all those satellite photos of galaxies.

Under The Radar

You may want to sit down because this is going to come as a shock, but President Trump’s tax documents show major inconsistencies. ProPublica obtained documents related to two of Trump’s Manhattan skyscrapers, which show that Trump’s businesses reported different income figures to lenders than they reported to New York City tax authorities. Those conflicting numbers made the buildings look more profitable to lenders, and less profitable to officials who decide the property tax. That’s a little something we like to call fraud, which is the kind of crime Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort are serving time in prison for as you read this. This new finding underscores the importance of making Trump’s financial records public, and why he’s fighting so hard in the courts to prevent it.

Is That Hope I Feel?

The family of Matthew Shepard sent a representative to a Department of Justice event marking the 10th anniversary of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Hate Crimes Prevention Act, with a letter taking aim at Attorney General Barr. “We find it interesting and hypocritical that he (Barr) would invite us to this event commemorating a hate crime law named after our son and Mr. Byrd, while, at the same time, asking the Supreme Court to allow the legalized firing of transgender employees,” read Cynthia Deitl, an executive with the Matthew Shephard Foundation.
“Mr. Barr, you cannot have it both ways. If you believe that employers should have the right to terminate transgender employees, just because they are transgender, then you believe they are lesser than and not worthy of protection. If so, you need not invite us to future events at the Department of Justice.”
Read more of the letter here
If you’ve also had enough of Barr’s bullshit, consider supporting the Matthew Shepard Foundation

Enjoy

2014.11.09 02:59 luch11 Thought you ladies might find this interesting: 8th of November, "National day of the Afro-Argentinians and the Afro Culture" (A bit of history and info inside)

http://www.jus.gob.aderechoshumanos/areas-tematicas/afrodescendiente/8-de-noviembre,-dia-nacional.aspx
This is second year the day is celebrated.
A little bit of info on why this day was chosen:
María Remedios del Valle, one of the so called «niñas de Ayohúma»(girls from Ayohúma), these ladies assisted the defeated army of Gral. Manuel Belgrano in the Ayohúma battle.
Ayohúma ("dead's head" in quechua) was a combat that took place November 14 of 1813 as part of the independence wars of Argentina and Bolivia, in the Alto Perú Campaign, in which the Army of the North commanded by Manuel Belgrano was defetead by the royal Spanish troops commanded by Joaquín de la Pezuela, ending the second auxiliary campaign to Alto Perú.
Afro descent Argentine, born in 1766, acted as an auxiliary in the English Invasions and after the May Revolution served as a fighter in the Army of the North trough all of Argentina's Independence War, earning her rank as Captain and her status as «Madre de la Patria»(Homeland's Mother).
The date serves as a commemoration of María Remedios del Valle's death. Called "Madre De La Patria"(Homeland's Mother), General Manuel Belgrano conferred on her the degree of Captain for her bravery and courage on the battlefield. This is a further step in the recognition of the contributions to the construction of the nation and the national identity of the black community.
Two key aspects of the law are the 3rd article that instructs the Ministry of National Education, through the Federal Council of Education and the education authorities in the various jurisdictions, agree to incorporate into the curriculum of the educational system, in its various levels and modalities, the commemoration of this day and the promotion of African culture. And its Section 4 which mandates the Secretary of Culture of the Nation to commemorate the "National day of the Afro-Argentinians and the Afro Culture" through public policies that highlight and support the African culture in its various disciplines. Fundamentals that will give visibility and diffusion to the afro culture.
On October 22 of this year, the Federal Council of Education established the day(8th of November) as "National day of the Afro-Argentinians and the Afro Culture", making it so that on that day it's obligatory to discuss the history of the Afro-Argentinians and their contribution to the construction of our nation.
Document: Page 1 and Page 2
Agrupación XANGÓ said:
From Agrupación XANGÓ we celebrate the decision made by the Federal Council of Education.... It's a big step in the right direction for everyone inhabiting the territory of the Argentine Republic and an accomplishment in the fight against racism.
"Memoria, visibilidad y reconocimiento" (Memory, Visibility and Recognition)
The Human Rights Office met on 11th and 12th of July 2013 with social, cultural and political referents of African descent from 6 provinces and the city of Buenos Aires, along with African and Latin American migrants, to rescue the history of African contribution to our national identity through oral memory.
"Argentina, African roots: Memory, visibility and recognition" seeks to contribute to the visibility of Afro-Argentine community and the fight against racism and xenophobia.
The rescue of the identity and the contemporary history of people of African descent, through oral memory offers the possibility of relive, recreate and rescue these experiences that should not be forgotten
Now to the actual celebration of the Afro Culture in our country:
Last Night(11/07/14) the Senate celebrated the day with a number of plays, showcasing dance and symbols of the afro culture and a gallery of pictures and paintings.
There was a play that served as a homage to IEMANJÁ, Sergina Boa Morte (an afro-rights activist, founder of A Turma dae Bahiana) danced a tango, Baba Pae Alberto Tata de OXALA talked about the history of afro religions in Argentina and there were other dissertations related to the day being celebrated.
A couple more pics: Sergina Boa Morte and Alberto Tata de OXALA, the stage, the auditorium for the celebration.
Source for the pics(more pics inside)
Today the Ministery of Culture along with INADI (National Institute Against Discrimination, Xenophobia and Racism) organized a day of activities in the Cabildo that included debate sessions, workshops, stands to showcase culture, religions, gastronomy, crafts, music, dances, capoeira, etc
At 17hrs a parade of candombe groups took place and from 18hrs to 22 hrs there were audio visual projections and percussion acts performed as closing act for the day.
Promotional Pamphlet(shitty quality sorry best i could find online :/)
Schedule for the activities
The Minister of Culture of the Nation, Teresa Parodi; the sub secretary of the Secretariat for Human Rights, Carlos Pisoni; and the founder of INADI, Pedro Mouratian also participated in the celebration.
Some of the groups that participated and supported the commemoration were Amigos de las Islas de Caboverde, Jóvenes Argentinos Caboverdeanos, Afros LGBT, A Turma dae Bahiana, África Vive, Asociación Civil Onira, Agrupación Xangó, Unión Caboverdeana, Asociación Multicultural Multiétnica, Casa de la Cultura Indoafroamericana, Agrupación Afrocultural La Cabunda, Asociación de Residentes Senegaleses, Teatro en Sepia, Todos con Mandela, Movimiento Afro Cultural, Diafar,África y su Diáspora, Cofradía de San Baltazar, Comunidad de San Félix, Shimmy Club y Comedia Negra.
Will update the thread with some pics of today's celebration when they start popping up.
Also it should be noted:
  • that provinces, like Entre Ríos, have planned meetings and acts to reflect the celebration of this day too.
  • A seminary called “Avances y desafíos para la inclusión de la perspectiva afrodescendiente en los sistemas educativos del Cono Sur”(Break Troughs and Challenges for the inclusion of the afro descents' perspective in the educational systems of the South Cone" under the direction of the Commission of Afro Descents Consultants of the Argentine Chancellery, CTERA(Commission of Educational Workers of the Argentine Republic) and Agrupación XANGÓ on 11/11

2012.01.30 01:15 Threeamigos A Gay Romance Story: The Three Amigos

Hey fellow LGBTQ Redditors! I'm a young fiction writer writing this story called 'The Three Amigos'. It's a gay romance story that I've been posting/updating quite frequently on Deviantart. I've been wanting some real feedback from the LGBTQ community I was wondering if you're up for a bit of fiction and romance and would want to read it! This is part one. (It starts out as more of a summary, but quickly becomes more of a manuscript - this happened mostly because I was initially writing a summary, and like most writing, it turned into something completely different.
So, here it is!: (Link to part 2 and the deviantart account at the bottom)
Jay, Len and Spencer all apply and are hired for teaching jobs at a private school in a northern suburb of Seattle. Jay, an abused, out of the closet Latin teacher is re-establishing himself after barely escaping a bad situation, hopefully, a lifetime away. Len, is an experience LA teacher figuring out himself out while healing and learning from new friends. Spencer is a somewhat oblivious half-comic half-genius math teacher.
On the first day of their orientation, the three men, the only male middle school teachers, gravitated together. The three of them knock around together until the first day of school, when classes begin. After lunch periods spent together talking and laughing, Jay gratefully began to forget his bruised and blotched past few years with his insane, psychotic ex - Ron Pine.
A couple weeks in, Spencer had to go to an in-service for his profession, leaving Jay and Len to eat alone in the Latin room instead of their usual gang of three. Mid lunch, Jay put his Rueben down and came out, telling Len that he's gay. He told Len much of his story about his relationship with Ron and how he'd ran off and finally found this job offer.
Len felt a strike of affection, never having met a gay man – much less one who admitted it to him. He'd never really imagined that gay affairs could be abusive, but after thinking about it, it didn't seem impossible. Suddenly, he found his thoughts drifting to something more sexual than amicable and wasn't sure how to react. Lisa's words, a former girlfriend who came out to him as lesbian later in life, came back to him. That he should 'accept people for whoever they are'. He replaced the word people with himself and decided to stop being scared and let his curiosity to thrive. Len wasn't dating anyone at the time. Loneliness crept in on certain nights. His last break up had gone nastily, and he found himself missing having someone else in bed in the mornings, having someone to hold.
Now of course Bisexual Len, Language Arts teacher and former homophobe, had never had any experience in hitting on a guy. Sure he'd picked up plenty of girls. Want to go out for coffee? Hints of 'Meet you at that café on Tuesday' and little gestures from the hands and eyes were really all he knew. And he sure as hell wasn't about to ask someone. Not even Lisa, he wasn't going to go about telling people he was gay. Well, half-gay. Or what did they call it, bisexual? He knew he was still attracted to girls.
After not enough rest that night, he came to the conclusion that hinting at a guy (or a guy hitting on him) shouldn't be much different from a girl. They were relationships all the same, right? He didn't see why not. It was just with more testosterone and a different type of hot.
It was the Thursday of the next week and Jay needed to borrow a black notepad that Len had taken some minutes in from this last staff meeting. He combed a hand through his hair nonchalantly as he walked the short distance to the Language Arts room and cracked the door. "Len, can I borrow the…"
He trailed off, realizing there was no one in the room. Mentally shrugging, he approached Len's desk and saw a black spiral bound. Thinking it was the one from yesterday, he picked it up with the intentions of returning it in a few minutes, and left the room.
It was near the end of 5th period and Jay knew he'd have kids in a few minutes, so he opened up the journal right after leaving the room, determined to do this fast. To his mild surprise, the pages were pretty filled by Len's penned words. He is an LA teacher, Jay thought, he must take good notes. He sat down at his desk and shoved his tablet laptop away, setting down the notebook.
In an attempt to page through to what he was looking for, he began skimming. There was his name, written clearly several times on the page. Jay realized he'd picked up the wrong spiral bound, seeing the dates and the first person narration. This was Len's journal…
He stopped for a second, assessing what had happened. He'd mistaken this journal for a different pad of paper. It wouldn't be right to read it…but why was his name written so many damn times? Jay was well aware that he, Len and Spencer were close, but from the huge span of things that Len talked about, it was surprising to find this whole entry seemingly about him. Jay told himself he should stop reading this – but before he could react to the mental command, he found his eyes were already halfway down the page of the latest entry.
I just keep finding myself looking at him. A lot. To the point where I'm hoping Jay's not noticing. Well, I guess I do want him to notice – but he'd probably get the wrong idea. Goddammit, I've convinced myself of this shit and now I think that I'm in love with him. What the hell is wrong with me?
A workplace – much more a school – is not the place to be even thinking about dating someone…a guy? Dating, wow, I've moved on to that term. Lenny the Gay Guy. I bet that'd stick with anyone who found out.
The other day I wiki'd some things. Bisexuality, comes up as being attracted to guys and girls. Well, that's me. I want to hate it but I just can't. Things would be easier if I could just fucking accept it. Is there a way I could get Jay to notice? Because I'm not going to make the first move.
I wonder if he did hint to anything if I'd be able to pick up on it. Maybe he's already dropped a million hints and I just didn't get them. Dammit, I'm being an asshole. It's like I'm assuming that gay guys just want to get in my pants. I really doubt they do. Maybe I'll ask Lisa or something. But Jay's mature, I mean seriously? Are stereotypes really ever true?
I don't know. Anyway, there's no use for me complaining to paper about it, although I will anyway. I don't wish that he knew but…I don't know. I'm too hungry to think. Need to get lunch, thank god it's soon.
 *-Len *
Jay blinked after having read it all. He wanted to yell at himself for reading something so personal, he felt like a terrible person and friend. But he'd had no idea. His 'gaydar' had never worked too well and never in a million years would he (or probably anyone else) have guessed Len was bisexual.
He'd met a few guys that called themselves bi, dated one of them in high school. He knew more bi girls than guys, but Len was apparently one more for the list. But…Len liked him? Even if he'd known Len was bi, he wouldn't have guessed he'd crush on him or even tried to go after him. After all, he told himself, glad to be proving a stereotype wrong, gays do not just befriend people to get in their pants. He was glad that Len knew that. Sort of.
One of the seventh graders walked in, a girl named Nina, and came up to him. "Whatcha reading?" she asked nonchalantly, green trapper under her arm. Jay jumped almost visibly; folding the cover over the entry a little faster than if it wasn't one of his best friend's diaries.
He put on his best teacher smile, "Meeting notes, classified information." He said, keeping cool. Nina shrugged.
"Cool." And went over to her table.
Jay took his tablet pen and made it look like he was writing something, trying to make a gap in time between this tiny conversation that seemed way bigger. He stared down, moving his pen, not really doing anything for a grand total of thirty two seconds, then gathered the notebook and went back out into the hall.
He walked by slowly once to see if Len had class right now and if he was in the room. No kids, no Len. Hurriedly, he went in, put it down exactly where he found it and headed out, his heartbeat fast enough to beat a racehorse.
So! That was part one of the story - so far there are 22 parts. Here's the link to part 2. (To access you might need a deviantart account. They're free and easy to make if you really want to read!),
The Official Three Amigos Profile Page and the
Character Profiles for Len, Jay and Spencer
Thank you SO much for reading! I wanted some real feedback from members of the LGBT community as a gay fiction writer - thanks again!!!
